When Rachel was matched with her Therapy Dog Keanu, her nightmares and anxiety were relieved.

“I have PTSD and have nightmares all the time. Since being matched with Keanu, I have only had one nightmare within a month of having him,” Rachel says.

Rachel was apprehensive at first about just how much a Therapy Dog could help with her anxiety and PTSD, until Keanu entered her life. “He’s lowered my anxiety, so all my other symptoms are better,” says Rachel.

Upon hearing that Guide Dogs NSW/ACT offers Therapy Dogs, Rachel signed up for the Therapy Dog program. Within seven weeks, she was matched with Therapy Dog Keanu.

“We did a three-week trial and he aced it. I expected a rough start, but he was perfect from the moment I met him,” says Rachel.

Rachel and Keanu have learned to walk together and are continually practicing commands and recall skills. “We can now go to my appointments by ourselves, which I haven’t done for years.”

The positive impact that Keanu has had on Rachel is incredible, as he provides her with comfort, companionship and emotional support.

We believe everyone should have access to the support and tools required to live an independent life. Without you, we couldn’t support Clients like Rachel to pursue meaningful activities that are important to them.
