If you notice anything unusual with your pup, please contact your Puppy Development Advisor or the Guide Dogs Centre before seeking veterinary advice unless it is an emergency. We have a vet onsite and can arrange a visit if needed. For non-emergencies outside office hours, refer to our list of Approved Veterinary Clinics(opens in new tab). If you can’t reach us first, inform us promptly after seeking treatment. For non-urgent x-rays recommended by the vet, please ask them to contact the Guide Dogs Centre vet team for approval before proceeding. Please endeavour to use clinics on our Approved Vets list as we have billing agreements in place which reduce the likelihood of Puppy Raisers incurring out-of-pocket expenses.
When visiting an Approved Veterinary Clinic
Please make sure the vet is aware that your pup belongs to Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and that we should be recorded as the owner in their database. The last name of the dog should be “Guidedogs”. Please also provide them with the pup’s “D” number, located on the back of its tag, and your contact details.
It is vital to our breeding program to have accurate and current data on our dogs. For this reason, please ask the vet to send the following documents together after each consultation to vetinvoices@guidedogs.com.au along with any invoices that require payment:
- Clinical Notes/Patient History
- Test results (If relevant)
- Vaccination (with vial numbers) or Sterilisation Certificate (If relevant)
All invoices are to be addressed to Edmund Sullivan, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, PO Box 3104, Freemans Reach NSW 2756. This will ensure that accounts are finalised in a timely manner.
Emergency Procedures
Guide Dogs advises Puppy Raisers to keep their closest Veterinary Hospital’s number handy as pups can quickly fall ill or injure themselves. In such cases, take your pup to the nearest Veterinary Hospital and then notify your Puppy Development Advisor or the Guide Dogs Centre. This helps us keep track of your pup’s health.
