About our Disability Inclusion Training.
We run fun, interactive workshops to increase awareness and develop your
skills to advocate alongside people with blindness or low vision in your community.
Our goal is to create a more accessible and inclusive environment for everyone, including the half a million Australians who are blind or have low vision.
Guide Dogs provides training to various community and industry groups such as:
- public transport providers
- taxi and rideshare services
- hospitals
- universities
- local government
- hospitality and cultural institutions

What is included in the training?
Some of the things that you will learn in the General Awareness workshop include:
- Guide Dogs mission and purpose, including gaining a broader understanding of our many services.
- Appropriate Guide Dog etiquette and important access laws.
- An understanding of the functional impact of common vision conditions
and what these conditions can mean for people accessing the community. - The different ways people move around their environment using long
canes, Guide Dogs and Assistive Technology to support them to access their community safely and independently. - How to identify possible barriers to inclusion, and how you can be a part of creating positive change in your local community.
- Practical tips for offering assistance, guiding, using inclusive language and basic orientation.
- All your questions will be answered during a Q and A with our Lived
Experience Presenter.
Cost and delivery details.
Delivery: Sessions are delivered face to face to allow for practical guiding and communication activities. We also offer a blended option of a webinar followed up by practical activities.
Duration: Session times depend on your desired content and time frame. We can offer a range of session times including half days and full days.
Participant numbers: A maximum of 16-20 participants is recommended to allow full participation in practical activities. However, we can cater for larger groups on request.
Costs: Costs vary depending on content, location and participant numbers.
