Meet Access Advisor, Luke.

August 13, 2025

Tell me a bit about yourself.

I’m Luke, and I’ve been completely blind for my entire life. I recently graduated from university, and I’ve been working at Guide Dogs for a little over three months now. I love to read and when I have time, I love going overseas to visit new places and learn about food and culture that’s new to me.

What does your average day at Guide Dogs NSW/ACT involve?

My job is really dynamic and I often find myself doing different things every day. I make sure that resources, websites and programs are accessible for our employees, whether they rely on a screen reader like myself or use large print or other forms of Assistive Technology. Some days, I might be checking documents to ensure they’re properly designed for accessibility, whereas other days I might have meetings with a manager to help ensure that a new piece of software is useable for employees with blindness or low vision.

What do you like most about working at Guide Dogs NSW/ACT?

My favorite part of this job is the ever-changing nature of what I do. My job requires a mixture of technical and interpersonal skills, and I find myself learning new things about a lot of different topics, which I really enjoy. I’m also privileged to be part of an organisation like Guide dogs NSW/ACT where my personal values align so closely with those of the organisation itself.

What achievement are you most proud of since working here?

I’m very proud of the contributions I’ve made towards raising awareness about digital accessibility for staff members within the organisation. I’m also privileged to have been able to support the improvement of so many resources, ensuring that everyone can access them regardless of their disability. I want to feel like I’ve made a difference here at Guide Dogs and I feel like I’m on the way towards that goal. That means a lot to me.

I need help

Better than anything Santa can deliver.

For Sora, no toy, no gadget, or even a present from Santa Claus himself can compare to the life-changing support she receives from Guide Dogs.
