Guide Dogs NSW/ACT supports first responders after the Bondi attack.
Over the Christmas and New Year period, we were out supporting first responders to the Bondi terror attack who experienced an incredibly confronting event while protecting the community.
Our amazing Therapy Dog and Handler teams visited emergency services workplaces to provide calm, comfort and a moment to pause for those affected. The visits included the following locations:
- Bondi Anglican Church
- Ambulance Control and Aeromedical Services
- Jewish Care
- Westmead Hospital Emergency Department
- Tzemach Tzedek Community Centre
- Lifeline
- Office of Kellie Sloan (Local MP)
- Office of Allegra Spender (Federal MP)
The response from everyone involved was deeply positive. Our volunteers shared that they felt honoured to be able to help in such a meaningful way. First responders were grateful for the visits and spoke highly of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, our dogs and our Handlers, noting the genuine comfort the teams provided. A special mention was made to the teams visiting staff on night-shift, as they said they are usually forgotten about.
This response was made possible by the generosity and commitment of our Therapy Dog teams (coordinated by Alternate Pathways Manager, Sam O’Keeffe) and volunteers. We would also like to acknowledge our dogs and volunteer Handlers who took part. We sincerely thank the Handlers who supported these visits and represented Guide Dogs NSW/ACT with such care and professionalism:
Everyone’s contribution made a real difference during a time when it was needed most.
