More than 100 photographers and models and their four-legged friends descended on Sydney harbour to help raise vital funds for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT (GDN) and also capture some unique shots.

The Sydney Charity Photowalk began at Milsons Point Station on Sunday 4 February, with GDN’s Ambassador Dogs Venus and Fella leading the pack.

Organiser and local photographer Yulius Santoso (@photosbyyulius) said the event was hugely successful, bringing together likeminded creatives.

“There was a huge level of excitement,” he said.

“The donations speak for themselves.”

By Monday the group had raised more than $2,222, surpassing its $2,000 target.

This is the second charity walk the group has done; the first in December raising funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Yulius said choosing GDN was a no brainer. All it took was a simple poll to members and the organisation came out on top.

Many participants had personal connections to Guide Dogs, with family members benefitting from low vision services such as Orientation and Mobility training or being matched with a Guide Dog themselves.

On the day, the group was also incentivised to take the Best Dog Photo of the Day, which amazingly included one of our Ambassador Dogs.

“Some say black dogs are a little harder to photograph, but we got some great photos,” Yulius says.

The event was a great way for people to add to their portfolios, meet new friends and connect with old ones while taking in the surrounds of Sydney.

Hoping this will become a quarterly event, Yulius says the team is now working on its next fundraiser.
