The Newcastle Knights National Rugby League Women’s (NRLW) team got a dose of puppy cuteness last week when they walked into their scheduled session to find an unexpected sight that had them squealing with excitement—four adorable Guide Dog puppies and a couple of Guide Dogs staff members.

The surprise reveal marked the announcement of an incredible new partnership: Guide Dogs NSW/ACT has been named the official charity partner of the NRLW Knights for the 2025 season.

“You should have seen their faces!” said Jaynie. “The moment they saw those puppies; it was pure excitement. The girls loved the puppies. It was very sweet!”

While the puppy surprise was certainly a hit, the Knights players also showed genuine interest in learning about the meaningful work Guide Dogs does in the community. The team is looking forward to visiting the Guide Dogs Newcastle office to hear firsthand about our organisation’s life-changing impact.

Game day impact.

The partnership will have peak visibility on Sunday 14 September, during a special charity game day at McDonald Jones Stadium. This will be our opportunity to showcase the work we do in front of thousands of passionate Knights fans and members through multiple touchpoints, including:

  1. A half-time on-field interview highlighting the partnership;
  2. Special on-screen videos sharing Guide Dogs stories;
  3. A major charity raffle with exciting prizes; and
  4. Interactive activations across the stadium grounds.

This partnership represents more than just a charity sponsorship—it’s a strategic move to strengthen our community footprint and create meaningful connections with the Newcastle community. By aligning with one of the region’s beloved sporting teams, we gain access to a passionate, engaged audience while supporting women’s sport.

As the start of the 2025 NRLW season approaches, we are excited about the impact this partnership will have—not just on game day, but throughout the year in the broader Newcastle community.

A final, big thank you to the puppy raising team. Without their help, the puppy surprise wouldn’t have been possible.
