Youth adventure camping with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT

It’s an experience no teenager should miss, and why Guide Dogs Youth Adventure Camps are so important for young people living with low vision.

This summer, nine teenagers attended camp in Huskisson, on the south coast of New South Wales.

The youth camp was a great opportunity to practice a range of skills they’d learned in one-on-one training through the year with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT staff.

With support from the Guide Dogs team, the teens practiced things like planning independent travel, booking accommodation, ordering at a cafe and lots of adventure sports.

They practiced planning, cooking and serving meals, including supermarket shopping, using a BBQ, knives and a range of new navigation technology.

Above all else, the three-day camp was a chance for the teenagers to connect with new friends – young people like them who understand what it’s like to live with low vision or blindness.

This is just one of the fantastic ways in which your support transforms lives.
