Ready for her next adventure
At just six years old, Evie has already overcome many challenges due to low vision. Thanks to your support, Evie has enjoyed a fun-filled Christmas with her family and is excited for her next big milestone – starting school.
A few months ago, Evie’s mum Lucy bought school bags and lunch boxes, so that Evie could learn what they are for and how to use them. Lucy has also been teaching Evie how to put on and take off her school shoes so Evie can manage this independently.
To make sure Evie is just as prepared as the other children, Evie has spent the past few months attending school orientation.
Over the past three years, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT Orientation and Mobility Specialist Katrina has been brilliant at helping Evie learn to move around safely using tools like her cane and echolocation. She has also shared strategies with Evie’s family so they can help her to keep learning every day with her twin sister, Ava.
Next, Katrina will teach Evie how to walk from the car to school so she can be even more confident when she arrives at school each day.
Because of your generosity we will be able to provide life-changing support to many more children with low vision in the coming year. Thank you.
